Comportamientos relacionados con la salud y apoyo familiar y síntomas clínicos de HPB: Un estudio piloto de China

Este estudio pretende explorar el efecto de comportamientos relacionados con la salud en los síntomas clínicos de pacientes con hiperplasia prostática benigna (HPB), así como proveer algunas pistas para el control de estos. Los investigadores obtuvieron información, entre junio y septiembre de 2011, de tres hospitales en China sobre los comportamientos de los pacientes relacionados con la salud, como la ingesta de café (entre otros). La muestra se compuso de todos los hombres con HPB que visitaron el departamento de urología de los tres centros del estudio; de los 231 pacientes de la población blanco, solo 6 se negaron a completar la encuesta. Después de realizar las pruebas estadísticas pertinentes, solo el consumo regular de esta sustancia (OR = 0.33, 95% CI: 0.11–0.96) y tomar agua constantemente (OR = 0.44, 95% CI: 0.24–0.81) tuvieron efectos significativos en el IPSS (International Prostatic Symptom Score). A pesar de algunas limitaciones, el estudio provee una evidencia preliminar sobre el rol del café los hombres con HPB.
